THE STORY BEHIND SMS
Built From Firsthand Experience Inside Mission-Driven Leadership
I started Schunk Moreland Strategies in 2019 because I believe mission-driven organizations do their best work when they have a clear direction, engaged leadership, and the ability to turn good ideas into meaningful action.
That belief grew from lived experience. As a co-founder of Project Home Indy, a nonprofit serving pregnant and parenting teens in Indianapolis, I learned firsthand what it takes to build an organization around a mission and move from vision to execution. Through serving on numerous boards—including serving as board chair multiple times—I also saw how essential role clarity, trust, and board development are to navigating complex conversations.
My passion for facilitation became my profession during my tenure as Chief Strategy Officer at a large higher education institution, where I guided complex organizations through change while keeping people, priorities, and implementation aligned. Today, SMS brings these experiences together to help leaders ask the right questions, engage the people who matter, and create strategies they can actually implement.
